Johan Santana

Johan goes today for the Mets against Derek Lowe of the Braves. To me it seems like Lowe should be a Met and Ollie who knows where. Well baseball can change quickly and now I will root against Lowe which never was in my plans. That's baseball for you. Enjoy the games and lets go Mets. Should be 8 straight with Johan.

Sweep

The Mets have swept the Pirates and make it 7 straight. A well played game but Sean Green worries me a bit. After a great start he has really struggled. To me it seems like the problem in Seattle he was overworked in the beginnning now the workload is beginning to take its toll.

5 Straight for the Amazins'

The Mets have downed the Pirates at a score of 7-3 capped off by a 5 run eighth inning. They continue to rack up wins and Jon Niese pitched wonderfully giving up 2 runs in 6.0IP with no BBs. Today they hope to continue their success against the Pirates at 1:10. Lets go Mets and lets make this 6 straight wins.

Meet Your Bloggers

In case we haven't introduced ourself, your bloggers are Max Sauberman, Yang Yi, Geof Ferrer, and my producer in NY who's name is Ryan.

Big Pelf

Today at 7:10 is game two of Mets and Phils with Big Pelf going for the Mets. Pelf has looked good after coming back from forearm tendinitis. The Phils will send Jamie Moyer. Lets take game two and lets go Mets.

Johan's Gem and Greinke

Johan now has a 0.91 era after shutting out the Phils for 7 innings and whiffing 10. The Mets won 1-0 after Feliz's error off a Carlos Delgado hit ball. A good pitched game gotta tip your hat to Chan Ho Park as well as Johan, offense might need to score a bit more but a well played game.

In other news Greinke has won the Pepsi Clutch Award and rightly so. Though Johan also deserved it Greinke has pitched better(sorry guys). Well deserved hats off to Greinke.

Catchers Pirates and Sweep

The Mets have swept the Braves in the brief 2 game series.

Johan goes today for the Mets vs the Phillies so lets go Mets. Johan has won the pitcher of the month award.

Catching seems to be problem for the Mets. Personally, I think Ramon Castro should be the starting catcher period. He can hit for power about 15 hrs a yr. That would make the position an advantage. Omir Santos has his moments, but isn't major league ready. I mean pinch hitting him in the 9th for Castro? C'mon Jerry. Start Castro Schneider def backup and send Santos back to the minors.

Update On Perez

It has been decided that Perez will be moved to the bullpen to be used as a lefty/long reliever. This I believe was the right choice as he is being paid 36 million and should at least help the team in a way. Takashi will start in his place who was impressive in 2 2/3 innings of 1 hit ball vs the Phillies when brought in to relief Perez.

Mets and Braves

Lets all give a daily met cheer as the Mets take on the Braves. SO LETS GO METS!

Notes: John Maine has been on a mini groove hope for him to build one that.
Hope for Wright to have a big game.
Couple of steals from Reyes wouldn't hurt.
Daniel Murphy home runs in past two games lets make it three.
Enjoy the Mets game.

Trade Speculations

There are a ton of Metsfans out there who would love to try out being the GM of the Mets and I am no different. Now starting pitching has been a big issue so I am going to put on my GM cap and cook up a few possible trade scenarios.

Mets give Wilmer Flores, Eddie Kunz, Daniel Murphy, and Nick Evans.

Padres give Jake Peavy and Brian Giles.

Well you got to give talent to get talent don't you? However this isn't as bad as it looks. Wilmer Flores is a nice prospect, one of the few we have but he's a 3b and that is already occupied by an all-star, Mr. David Wright(struggling currently, but he'll turn it around). Eddie Kunz could be a future closer but we got K-Rod now don't we? Now Daniel Murphy has a ton of upside can who knows could be a 20+ maybe 30+ outfielder who hits 300+ and could possible steal 20+ bases. He has shown brief surges of power the past two years. Nick Evans is a possible 3rd outfielder who could probably hit 10-15 homers in the majors. Last but not least this helps the Padres cut payroll something they are trying to do.

Jake Peavy. The tandem of Santana and Peavy would be the best 1-2 in baseball. Peavy will get more run support in NY and should help Omar in his quest to give the Mets his certain "edge." The rotation would be right where it should be everyone back a slot. 1- Santana 2- Peavy 3- Pelfrey 4- Maine 5- Perez maybe? Redding? Livan? The rotation would look that much stronger. Also lets not forgot Brian Giles. As we give up Murphy, Giles should provide stable production in left along with better defense. Sure he may not have as much upside, but he is a consistent performer and consistency wins a championship.

Win Win trade for both teams.

Wheres Ollie When You Need Him?

After Oliver Perez's bad start against the Phillies the Mets are left with a tough decision. What to do with Oliver Perez? The Mets lefty has been a total bust after signing a 36 million dollar deal. Minors? Bullpen? If the Mets were to bump Perez who would replace him? Niese hasn't lived up to his promise and other options such as Figgy and Fossum aren't so appealing either. In my opinion I don't see why the Mets gambled on Perez. You bring a guy for 12 mill a year when you can get your pick of Lowe or Burnett for either 3 or 4 mill more a year respectively. I know they need to save payroll, but for a NY team 3-4 mill more a year wouldn't kill Wilpon. The bullpen has been good at holding leads but the starters have been great at taking away the bullpen chances, except a Mr. Johan Santana. I am a fan of Omar Minaya, but he fumbles in small oppertunities to add pieces that build a championship team. Johan, K-Rod, and the Putz/Sean Green trade have been wonderfully sculpted, but for small cases like passing Lowe for Perez have turned out to be horrendous. Bottom line is I would like to see Redding come back to be a short term stop gapper and Perez in the bullpen to soak up innings for an overworked bullpen. What does happen though remains to be seen.

Welcome

Welcome to the start of Daily Mets, a blog dedicated to the New York Mets. Spread the word, tell your friends, you friend's friends, and all the met fans you know. Heck, even tell your neighborhood hobo(no offense intended) if he likes the Mets. Hope you enjoy this blog and as always lets go Mets.
